“Getting a life sentence meant you were never going to go home. Everybody was getting shut down at court.  I figured I was going to be in prison for the rest of my life.  Basically, I kind of just gave up.”

“Most of us in the [dog training] program, we’re lifers.  We’re in here for somebody’s life. For us, being able to have a dog and train that dog and love that dog, and then that dog helps somebody, changes their life, it helps us to make amends for the crimes we committed. It helps honor our victims’ lives and makes being in prison not for nothing.”
